Should You Repair Or Replace Your Roof?

There is a decision to be made when your roof incurs damage – should I repair my roof or replace it? Sometimes this decision is made easier by the scope of the damage, but other times the decision is a little more difficult. How can you know what is the best course of action to take?

If only a few shingles have been damaged on your roof, it is best just to have it repaired. While it may be tough to track down identical/very similar shingles to the ones currently on your roof, it is worth the effort when it comes time to sell your home. If you are not planning on selling your home soon, any shingles will work for a repair and will extend the life of your roof.

If the damage is significant, but is localized to a specific section of the roof, a partial roof replacement may be the best option. This will cost you thousands of dollars less than completely replacing the roof.

However, if a lot of damage has occurred or if your roof is showing signs of wear/is nearing the end of its life, a complete replacement would be the best option for you. If your roof is aging, a repair or partial replacement will only solve that one problem in the short-term. Within several years, a roof replacement will be necessary anyways, so it would save you money to have it done right away.
