Why Are Gutters So Important?

When considering your home and your roof, you may forget to consider your gutters. While they are not the most thought of part of your home, they perform one of the most important functions. Why exactly are gutters so important?

Gutters help to properly drain water from your roof by redirecting the water away from your home. In the case of heavy rain or storms, large amounts of water can collect on your roof. If your home has no gutters, or if your gutters are clogged, the storm drainage will pour over the side of your roof and straight down to where the foundation lies. Over time, this drainage can erode your foundation, which would be catastrophic for your home.

If you have a basement, gutters also help prevent basement flooding. Gutters move the water away from your window wells and out into your yard. Without your gutters, this water could collect in your window wells and leak through your windows. Gutters also simply help protect the plants planted around your home, such as shrubs or flowers. Without gutters, water would fall and drown or crush your plants.

Gutters perform essential functions that may not cross your mind when initially thinking about your gutters. If you would like to schedule gutter installation or repair, give us a call at (918) 558-ROOF (7663).
